Total War: Three Kingdoms lets you into the ancient China spectacle of the infamous Three Kingdoms Chinese Era. You can pick one of the twelve playable factions, each with their own warlord-like famous player (in any combination of Cao Cao, Liu Bei, Sun Jian) and take the reigns. A unique feature of Total War: Three Kingdoms are its two game modes  Romance and Records I. “Romance” mode, closely inspired by the classic book Romance of the Three Kingdoms, see generals with near-superpowers meaning you can actually turn the tide on your own in battle with one single officer. On the other hand, “Records” like to be historically grounded and the general is an important part of your army, but not with such unrealistic powers. The  Three Kingdoms game uses a more subtle character relationship system that is based on the Chinese guanxi Relationship, for which social connections and personal interactions carry a lot of weight All generals have their own quirks, unique desires, and allegiances which directly impacts the loyalty and effectiveness of each. Managing those relationships: if you dont satisfy the general, he will either become disloyal or defect. Taking into account the inter-personal dynamics that lies underneath add dimension to your strategy planning  because after all these connections can be as crucial as the battlefield skills.
